Busy as a (Sad) Bee

Well, I did it! I managed to make my living room presentable for my company this weekend! I’ll post photos in my next update!
Unfortunately, I had to skip the end of PPO’s Organization Challenge, but I’m pleased to say that a winner was selected. Congratulations to Tamera of Crank Heart Pony! Her name was selected for the $25 e-certificate from Amazon.com! Yay Tamera!
This update is late, because I’m sad to report that a dear old friend of mine took his own life this past weekend. I won’t go into any details, but I will miss him.
Updates should be back to normal soon.

Update + Messy Office Contest
I’m pleased to report that I am making progress on my living room!
Not just in a “grab crap and move it elsewhere” type of way, either! While it’s certainly not as thorough a cleaning as I would like, I’ve managed to clear off an entire couch!
Remember the Messy Office Contest that I post about last week?
While I didn’t make it to the finals (My office isn’t really that bad any longer, since I’ve started cleaning up; if only I had known about this contest in December! I would have been a shoe-in!), a Clutter Cubed reader, Aimee, did!
Check out her blog post about her entry, or view it right here:
It would be awesome if a Clutter Cubed reader won, wouldn’t it? You can vote for her here! She’s the bottom right entry.
Good luck, Aimee!

Emergency Motivation?

Yikes!
My aunt called me last night to ask if the family could get together at my place this coming Sunday for my Father in Law’s birthday! o_0
Now, she knows my place is a disaster (in fact, she’s one of the people who has volunteered to help me sort things out once the weather gets better for driving between cities), but my place happens to fall in the best location for most of the family to drive to. We’re rather in the middle of everyone, it seems, and since winter’s still in full swing here, it’s easier and safer for people to all drive here, than to someone else’s house that’s farther away.
Which means… I have only a week to get at least the living room cleaned up! Yikes!
My husband is working evenings this week, so I guess for once it’s a good thing that I’ll be trapped at home without a car after work.
Now, while have no doubts I can get the living room “presentable” by Sunday, I’m worried that a rush-job like this won’t let me do the sort of cleaning and more importantly purging that I really need to do. What’s likely to happen is that all the stuff in the living room will simply end up elsewhere, rather than being properly sorted through and disposed of. For example, the couches are currently home to part of my fabric stash, but I don’t yet have a functional fabric storage area. It’s fleece, so it doesn’t fold and fit neatly onto shelves like fat quarters or regular cotton does. As such, I can’t just remove it from the couch and put it “back where it belongs”, because it doesn’t have a place to belong to yet. That’s the reason it’s taking up space on my couch in the first place.
I already know I have issues deciding what to keep and what to toss; I’m not sure rushing the process will help or hinder. Guess I’ll find out!
I’ll try to update throughout the week with progress reports, but I’m not sure I’ll have time to take photos as I go. We’ll see.
Nothing like the threat of people visiting to get you motivated, eh?
*Eek!*

$10,000 for the Messiest Office!
Do you have a messy office? If you read this blog, it’s probably at least a little messy.
But is it the messiest? My Fax is holding a contest, and the messiest office could win you $10,000! How sweet is that?
Here’s the best news: This contest is open to legal residents (over 21) in both the USA and Canada! That’s right, a contest we Canadians can enter too! Yay!
Here’s the contest blurb:
For the full rules, you can visit the Messy Office Contest Page.
I’m going to enter! You can too, but hurry! They’re only accepting entries until Feb 25th!
